About us

West Deer EMS, Inc. is a not-for-profit Emergency Medical Service.  Established in 1977 staffed by a group of volunteers until making the transition to a paid staff starting in 1995 and becoming a full-time paid service in 1998.  Located in West Deer Township, a suburb in Northeastern Allegheny County Pennsylvania, approximately 20 miles north of Pittsburgh, we handle all emergency calls for West Deer Township. Our service area is approximately 28 square miles and has a population of over 12,500.  We are an ALS (Advanced Life Support) service licensed by the PA Department of Health in the Emergency Medical Service Institute Region of Pennsylvania.  We currently receive Medical Control UPMC Prehospital Services.  Our income is from ambulance service billing, an annual subscription drive and other donations.  We have a paid staff on duty, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We also provide and receive “mutual aid” services from Seneca Area EMS, Lower Valley EMS, Shaler-Hampton EMS, and Richland EMS, as well as the UPMC St. Margaret Paramedic Response Team and AHN Preshospital Response Team from AHN Wexford. We also receive QRS (Quick Response Service) support from the West Deer #3 Volunteer Fire Department, Station 290
